Leaving Texas – Day One

On any trip from where we live, the first part is always spent getting out of Texas. I drove part of the way past Midland and Odessa. The wind got stronger all afternoon and our mpg got lower!  Lots of activity in this part of Texas with oil and related businesses building huge facilities. Our first night was spent in Monahans.  Certainly not a garden spot!  We stayed at the best RV park in town, Country Club RV Resort and paid $25 for the night.  I think we may have been the only ones that did not work somewhere nearby. Many have been here a long time. No grass, only Monahans sand. I got some pictures next morning as we were leaving even though it was slightly foggy – isn’t this great?

The wind has been blowing in this part of Texas for awhile as evidenced by trash and white plastic bags on both sides of I-20. You would have been ashamed of our “Don’t Mess with Texas” program as it has a lot to do to catch up. Guess part of the blame is the extreme drought and the economy with lack of funds to pay for services like trash pickup.
