While in this area we have found several neat places to visit. A great place for dinner is the Lakehouse Restaurant on Hwy 27 at Loop 98 overlooking the Guadalupe River. They serve great catfish, steaks and vegetables. We have been there several times and they always have good food reasonably priced. A big parking lot and easy to get into. On Wednesday we drove into town to Wally World to get some groceries etc. Also needed to go to CVS and the Meat Market on Hwy 27. On the way we discovered an old friend – Gibson’s. This used to be a chain of discount stores with hardware and sporting goods all over Texas in the early days before Walmart got so big. We understand this is one of only two left. Inside the stock almost reaches the ceiling in every aisle and I bet they have one of everything. Would take all day just to see it all and they have more outside in front. Awesome find! It is on W. Main Street really close to Mamacitas Mexican Restaurant (another good place to eat).
Another deceiving place to eat is Bill’s Bar-B-Que at 1909 Hwy 27 (Junction Highway). They have been cooking good food here for over 30 years and several generations. Not a fancy place but sure is good food. Very tender brisket and good ribs. But they are not open on Monday! It is on the south side of the street and watch for it or you will pass it by. Enjoy!
